Pepfly, Energy Inside’s flagship product, exists to solve a problem in the world of emotional well-being: effectiveness. Psychologists and researchers, in recent years, have developed many new and innovative ways of improving emotional well-being; these treatments are powerful and test well in laboratories, but they sometimes don’t translate into the outside world. Even when they have access to them, many people just don’t use these treatments, for any number of reasons – because they find them too long; too confusing; too inconvenient; or because they are simply no fun. These treatments therefore do not always make a difference in the lives of people who really need them – in other words, they are not effective enough. Pepfly aims to change that.

We created pepfly when we realized that a lot of people in the world feel stressed, depressed, or anxious but don't feel they can do anything about it. Researchers have learned an amazing amount about what helps people, but most of this knowledge never reaches them. The web has opened up all sorts of new ways of sharing knowledge and disseminating tools to improve emotional well-being, but its full potential has not been achieved.

Here is what science tells us about emotional well-being...

Feeling: Heartfelt positive emotions are good for us. When we feel truly inspired, for example, our body produces hormones that improve our physical health, we can think more flexibly, and we feel the urge to do good in the world around us. People who regularly feel grateful for things, optimistic about the future, or calm and content more than they feel stressed out or down or angry are more likely to be happier and healthier overall.

Thinking: How we think about things has a big impact on how we feel and act. There are ways of changing the way we think that can help us be less anxious, less depressed, and cope with stress more effectively. The more we can use these techniques when we need them, the better off we will be.

Behavior: Certain regular practices are good for us. These include things like exercise, which most of us know already. But they also include mental practices like mindfulness-a word that refers to paying attention to something that you care about and are curious to learn more about. It turns out that practicing mindfulness does a bunch of great things, like helping us concentrate more effectively, manage stress, be present in relationships, just to name a few. Yet, most of us haven't heard of this, or if we've heard of it, don't use it regularly in our day-to-day lives.

So, we built pepfly as a way of applying this science to our everyday lives...

'Feel' pep: To encourage people to feel more positive emotion on a regular basis, we've created 'Feel pep'. These are things we've gathered from the Internet - videos, photos, quotes, interactive toys, or any kind of online media - that we think will make people feel good, and as a consequence, get all of those benefits that come with heartfelt positive emotion.

'Do' pep: To teach people ways of managing thinking and behavior, we've created 'Do' pep. These are interactive exercises based on techniques that have been studied by researchers. These techniques, whether from clinical psychology or positive psychology, all have one thing in common-they help us do something that contributes to our emotional well-being. Some examples of 'Do' pep are: exercises to help us remember to breathe, do kind things for others, remember to be grateful, take time to relax, and think about our lives from new perspectives.

Through pepfly, we think people can benefit from good science, but will also help science learn more about people...

Creating new knowledge: We want to learn about what helps people live happier and more fulfilling lives. But, we think that it's important to do this in a scientific way. So, we are building ways to learn about how people use pepfly and how it affects them. With the help of the same scientists whose research informed pepfly, we will give back to the world what we learn about people's everyday lives and bring the science full circle.
